What weight can Atom ladders hold?

All Atom ladders are rated to 150kg under AS/NZS 1892.1:1996 — the industrial standard for ladders in New Zealand. This is the combined weight of the user plus tools and materials. The rating applies across all models: multi, step, telescopic, and work platforms. Never exceed the rated capacity.

What warranty do Atom ladders come with?

Atom Multi Ladders carry a 10 year manufacturer warranty covering defects in workmanship or materials, for both home and industrial use. Step ladders, telescopic ladders, and work platforms carry a 1 year warranty. Normal wear, misuse, overloading, and unauthorised modifications are not covered. To claim, return the ladder to Trade Tested at your own cost — if covered, we'll repair or replace it. Contact 0800 800 880 or support@tradetested.co.nz.

What's the difference between multi, step, and telescopic ladders?

Multi ladders are the most versatile — they convert between A-frame, extension ladder, uneven A-frame (for stairs), and trestle scaffold using Push Knob Hinge Locks and Spring Loaded J Locks. The Multi 22 extends to 6.7m. Available in 13, 17, and 22 sizes. Step ladders are your classic A-frame — stable, quick to set up, ideal for indoor work. The 6 Step Dual Purpose extends into a single-sided ladder for extra height. Telescopic ladders extend one rung at a time with auto-locking latches and collapse to under 94cm for car boot storage.

Which Atom ladder should I get?

For maximum versatility, get a Multi Ladder — the 17 is the most popular all-rounder at around 17.9kg. For quick indoor jobs (painting, cleaning, shelving), the 3 Step at just 5.3kg is fastest to set up. For portability where storage is tight, the Telescopic (12.5kg, collapses to 94cm) fits in a car boot. The Portable Work Platform (5.7kg, 52cm height) is great for extended ceiling work. For the highest reach, the Multi 22 extends to 6.7m (22ft).

Can I use a multi ladder on stairs?

Yes — that's one of the multi ladder's best features. Each side adjusts independently via the Spring Loaded J Locks, so you can set different heights to create a level platform on a staircase. The Push Knob Hinge Locks hold the A-frame angle securely. Always ensure all four feet are firmly planted on steps or solid ground before climbing.

How do the multi ladder configurations work?

The multi ladder has two locking systems. Push Knob Hinge Locks change the shape — push the knobs with your palm to unlock, then adjust to one of 3 positions: folded, A-frame (~45°), or flat/extension. Spring Loaded J Locks change the height — pull out and rotate to unlock, extend to desired height, then rotate back to lock on a rung hole. Always verify all 4 J Locks are secure before climbing. The scaffold trestle configuration separates the inner and outer sections to create two trestle stands for use with a scaffolding plank.

Will the aluminium rust or corrode?

No. Atom ladders are made from high-tensile structural aluminium, which naturally resists corrosion. They're safe to use outdoors and can handle rain without rusting. Clean off dirt, paint, and debris after each use, and lubricate moving parts when needed — but never lubricate rungs or side rails (slip hazard). Indoor storage is recommended. Do not use if exposed to excessive heat or corrosive agents.

How much do Atom ladders weigh?

Multi 13: 12kg. Multi 17: ~17.9kg. Multi 22: 18.8kg (folded: 170cm × 70cm × 21cm). Step Ladder 3 Step: 5.3kg. Platform Ladder 3 Step: 9.9kg. Telescopic 3.8m: 12.5kg (48cm wide, collapses to 94cm). Portable Work Platform: 5.7kg. Multi Ladder Platform accessory: 3kg.

What is the Multi Ladder Platform accessory?

The Multi Ladder Platform sits across your Atom Multi Ladder in A-frame mode. It's a stability aid to widen your stance as a foot rest, and works as a tool shelf. Important: it is not designed to bear your full body weight — the majority of your weight load must remain on the multi ladder itself. It fits all Atom Multi Ladder sizes (13, 17, 22) but does not fit the Telescopic Ladder.

Can I use an Atom multi ladder for scaffolding?

Yes. The multi ladder can be configured as a scaffold trestle by separating the inner and outer sections. The inner section becomes one trestle in A-frame mode, while the two outer sections connect together to form a second trestle. Pair with the Scaffolding Extra Plank Platform (190×24cm) for a complete scaffold setup. The scaffold trestle height is approximately 1.5m with a top width of 325mm.

Are Atom ladders suitable for trade use?

Yes. All Atom ladders are certified to AS/NZS 1892.1:1996, the industrial standard for trade and commercial use in New Zealand. The 150kg load rating covers the combined weight of user plus tools and materials. They're used daily by electricians, painters, builders, and maintenance crews. The high-tensile structural-grade aluminium handles the demands of regular professional use, and Multi Ladders come with a 10 year warranty.

What safety precautions should I follow?

Never use the ladder if supporting hinges are not locked — check all locks before every climb. Do not stand on or above the second rung from the top. Never straddle front and rear sections. Always face the ladder and maintain a firm grip. Maintain control of the inner section while raising or lowering — releasing it could cause injury. Inspect the ladder before every use and never use one with damaged or worn parts. Replace worn ladder feet regularly.
